Ever thought about how different times of the day, week and year affect how you feel about yourself, your business and life in general?
A LinkedIn article yesterday was discussing recent research based on how people felt at different times of the day, week and year.
I don’t think the results of the research is a surprise to anyone, but the key here is how do we use this data/knowledge to make our lives happier? I’ve come up with some suggestions below, but please feel free to add your own in the comments!
–Breaking it down–
People feel the best about themselves and their lives in the morning and worst around midnight
In practice:
– Getting to sleep before midnight
– Earlier wake up time
The Research:
People felt better about their happiness and life satisfaction on Mondays and Fridays, and less so on Sundays.
In practice:
– Reserve Sundays for activities that fill your cup – positive journalling, meeting with friends, enjoying a nice walk, reducing phone usage, reading
– Don’t do things on a Saturday that will make Sunday feel worse – drinking, late nights
– Starting Sunday with a gratitude practice
The Research:
People felt more depressed, anxious and lonely in the winter
In practice:
– Arrange multiple meetups each week with different friends, so even if one cancels you still have someone else to meet with
– Utilise community groups more in winter (like your local Bachata club)
– If you aren’t already in therapy, give a therapy/counsellor a go. Even if you feel you might not need it, a monthly checkin call might make the winter smoother
– Go somewhere sunny on a random Winter weekend for a boost
– Have things to look forward to scheduled in
